The Waimea Arts Council is excited to announce our summer exhibit Light and Shadow showcasing our members art. Light and shadow define the world we see – revealing form, creating contrast, and shaping emotion. In this exhibition artists explore the interplay between illumination and darkness, both literal and metaphorical. The works invite viewers to consider how light transforms what is hidden into what is seen. An opening reception will be held on Saturday June 6 from 3-5 pm
FIREHOUSE GALLERY Presents: Brenda Meriwether – Underwater Tile Art Show Opening June 6th 3 pm – 5 pm During the month of June Brenda Meriwether will be exhibiting 50 years of ceramic experience with her own mini show at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea. Brenda will be in attendance for the opening. Come check o ut her work! Pupus will be served. Brenda Meriwether, a ceramic tile artist with 50 years of experience in ceramics. She has managed ceramic studios in Texas and Iceland, has taught techniques classes in slip casting and glazing, and has had her works in Polynesian Cultural Center, a show at Ong King and a window at Art at Marks Garage on Oahu. On the Big Island she’s had works at the Wailua Art Center, currently at Firehouse Gallery and Kukuau Studio. The Basics of Drawing Cartoons with artists Lloyd Fukuki and Lorrie Taylor. In partnership with the Waimea Arts Council, Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library presents The Basics of Drawing Cartoons with artists Lloyd Fukuki and Lorrie Taylor. Bring out the cartoonist in you! In this class, beginning artists ages 8+ will learn simplified ways to draw people, plants, and animals—even dinosaurs! Students will discover the secrets for rendering facial expressions, action, perspective, and how to make cartoon characters appear cute or fierce. All materials provided by the Waimea Arts Council and Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The class is free but registration is required. Hand Building Ceramics. August: 9, 16, 23, 30 September: 6, 13 Sunday’s | 3:30 – 6:30 pm Over six weeks, you’ll learn essential and decorative pieces. The course begins with pinch pots, coil construction, and vessel building before progressing to soft slab techniques using a slab roller, molds and slump molds to create bowls, patterns and tripod cups.
