    2nd Annual Poetry Reading: Friday, March 27, 2026

    The Waimea Arts Council in collaboration with Pacific Raven Press is delighted to host an inspiring evening of poetry on Friday, March 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. This special event will feature local and visiting poets whose work resonates with contemporary art’s beauty and emotional depth. In the intimate gallery space, attendees will experience a dynamic fusion of visual and literary expression. Guests are encouraged to mingle with the poets and fellow art appreciators while enjoying complimentary refreshments. The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited.     Ola I Ka Wai: Water is Life: April 4 – May 31, 2026

    Water sustains all living things – flowing through culture, memory and the natural world. In this members’ exhibition, artists interpret the essential and spiritual connection between wai (water) and life in Hawai’i. Through diverse media and perspectives the show honors water as both a precious resource and a symbol of renewal. Come meet artists at the opening reception for Ola I Ka Wai: Water is Life on Saturday, April 4 from 3-5 pm, with light pupus and punch. The Firehouse Gallery is located at the intersection of highways 190 and 19 and is regularly open from Thursday – Sunday 11-3 and whenever flags are flying.   • First Saturday Art Class: Build-a-Bird

    Create a bird and habitat at the April First Saturday Art Class. In partnership with the Waimea Arts Council, Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library presents Build-A-Bird! with artist Lorrie Taylor on April 4 from 10 am to noon in the library. In this class, beginning artists 6+ will create their own bird and habitat using a selection of supplies, some bird knowledge, and their creativity. All materials provided by the Waimea Arts Council. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. This class is presented as part of the library’s Flight Path grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The Flight Path campaign is focused on how communities can observe and protect local and migratory birds, especially during peak migration periods.     Light and Shadow: June 6 – July 26, 2026

    The Waimea Arts Council is excited to announce our summer exhibit Light and Shadow showcasing our members art. Light and shadow define the world we see – revealing form, creating contrast, and shaping emotion. In this exhibition artists explore the interplay between illumination and darkness, both literal and metaphorical. The works invite viewers to consider how light transforms what is hidden into what is seen. An opening reception will be held on Saturday June 6 from 3-5 pm

    Free Saturday June 6 Art Class

    Experience collagraphy! Create a bird and habitat at the April First Saturday Art Class. In partnership with the Waimea Arts Council, Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library presents Collagraphy Print Making with artist Lorrie Taylor. Experience collagraphy! Collagraphy is a process that creates fun prints with minimal work. In this class, beginning artists ages 6+ will use cut shapes and textures to create a raised plate that is then covered with paper. Students will gently rub the relief with crayon or chalk to create a unique print. All materials provided by the Waimea Arts Council.     Underwater Tile Art Show : June 6 – July 26, 2026

    FIREHOUSE GALLERY Presents:  Brenda Meriwether – Underwater Tile Art Show Opening June 6th 3 pm – 5 pm During the month of June Brenda Meriwether will be exhibiting 50 years of ceramic experience with her own mini show at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea. Brenda will be in attendance for the opening. Come check o ut her work! Pupus will be served. Brenda Meriwether, a ceramic tile artist with 50 years of experience in ceramics. She has managed ceramic studios in Texas and Iceland, has taught techniques classes in slip casting and glazing, and has had her works in Polynesian Cultural Center, a show at Ong King and a window at Art at Marks Garage on Oahu. On the Big Island she’s had works at the Wailua Art Center, currently at Firehouse Gallery and Kukuau Studio. For this show she explored underwater subjects, from pretty koi to Creature from the Black Lagoon. For more information, call 808-887-1052.

    The Basics of Drawing Cartoons with artists Lloyd Fukuki and Lorrie Taylor. In partnership with the Waimea Arts Council, Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library presents The Basics of Drawing Cartoons with artists Lloyd Fukuki and Lorrie Taylor. Bring out the cartoonist in you! In this class, beginning artists ages 8+ will learn simplified ways to draw people, plants, and animals—even dinosaurs! Students will discover the secrets for rendering facial expressions, action, perspective, and how to make cartoon characters appear cute or fierce. All materials provided by the Waimea Arts Council and Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
