Cherry Blossoms and Cultural Influences of Japan

FRONT GALLERY (Feb. 1st – Mar. 1st, 2020)

The Waimea Arts Council is proud to present the 27th Annual Cherry Blossoms Art Show at the Firehouse Gallery. The cultural influences of Japan on the Big Island could not be overstated. From spam musubi to Japanese Buddist temples, you can see the Japanese-influenced features throughout daily life. A few of the many examples are Liliuokanalani Park and Gardens, historical buildings owned by Japanese immigrants and descendants, Japanese ceremonies including Bon dances, Taiko drum groups, Haari boats (sabani fishing canoes), and mochi. A much anticipated event in Waimea, artists will be showcasing work throughout the month of February that highlight the Cherry Blossom Festival as well as Japanese influences on the island.
