March 2005 "Anything Goes and Then Some" at the Firehouse Gallery in March During the month of March at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea, on Hawai`i Island, the Waimea Arts Council presents a continuation of its annual "Anything Goes" art show: "Anything Goes and Then Some". Artist members of the Waimea Arts Council are invited to display two pieces of their work, any medium, any subject, according to published policies. This show gives artists an opportunity to display their favorite or recent creations.Ê The show will include oils, watercolors, photography, collages, sculpture, colored pencil, glass works, jewelry, pastels, and more. A reception for artists and friends is scheduled for Saturday, March 12th, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. This is a good time to catch up on what your favorite local artists are doing and check out the latest changes in the old fire station. There may be some construction going on within the historic corner during March so access to the gallery may be occasionally restricted.
The Firehouse Gallery, a project of the Waimea Arts Council, is located in the old firehouse, the red building within the historic corner at the main stoplight and crossroads in Waimea. Scheduled gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Waimea Arts Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in North Hawai`i and is supported primarily by donations from its members. Membership is open to all artists and supporters of the arts. WAC's gallery telephone number is 887-1052.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
The restoration of the Historic Corner will begin shortly. The contractor has received the bid. An
official date has not been publicized to date. Parking for the gallery will pose a problem for us.
We will have to adjust as best we can when needed.
Congratulations to one and all for the wonderful display of works for February's Anything Goes Show.
Great participation! Thank you to all who helped organize the pieces.
The monthly newsletter will be sent out earlier to make the information more timely for you.
Dolly Loo will be joining us by May and bring her devotion back to the gallery.
We thank Amaury Saint-Gilles for winning third place in the annual charitable Christmas tree
decoration competition and donating the proceeds of $1000 to the Waimea Arts Council.
Sincerely,

for all students who enter.
The aim of this annual show is to promote and encourage talent among the students of Kohala, Waimea,
Waikoloa, Kawaihae, and Hamakua areas of Hawai'i Island. Competition is based on grade level rather
than between schools.
Awards will be presented at a reception for artists, judge, family members, and art teachers, at the
Firehouse Gallery on Saturday, April 16th, 3:00-5:00 p.m. The awards ceremony will begin at 4:00 pm.
The public is invited to attend and support these young artists. The show will be up from April 5
through April 30.
Note that the reception is the 3rd Saturday of the month, not the usual 2nd Saturday. The whole
schedule was pushed back due to Easter being on the last Sunday in March. And, we wanted to give
enough time from the jurying to the reception to allow the award information to make it into the
papers.
