Note: Remove "(no-spam)" from all email adresses before using them. February 2005 February Brings "Anything Goes" to Waimea
During the month of February at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea, on Hawai`i Island, the Waimea Arts
Council presents its annual "Anything Goes" art show. Artist members of the Waimea Arts Council are
invited to display two pieces of their work, any medium, any subject, according to published
policies. This show gives artists an opportunity to display their favorite or recent creations.
Ê
The show will include oils, watercolors, photography, collages, sculpture, colored pencil, glass
works, jewelry, pastels, and more. A reception for artists and friends is scheduled for Saturday,
February 12th, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. This is a good time to catch up on what your favorite local
artists are doing and check out the latest changes in the old fire station.
The Firehouse Gallery, a project of the Waimea Arts Council, is located in the old firehouse, the
red building within the historic corner at the main stoplight and crossroads in Waimea. Scheduled
gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Waimea Arts Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in North
Hawai`i and is supported primarily by donations from its members. Membership is open to all artists
and supporters of the arts. WAC's gallery telephone number is 887-1052.
We will be enforcing these rules in the future:
Since we still have no concrete schedule for theÊconstruction of our historic corner or remodeling
of the gallery, we beg everyone's patience.
March will be another Anything Goes Show. We hope that you will heartily participate.
Laurie Kaye's featured artist show in January was stupendous and innovative. Thank you, Laurie.
Again, when we have definitive news of the construction dates, we will keep you informed.
Sincerely,
A Huge MAHALO to Our Volunteers
Docents in January; Cheryl Ans, Ann Guth, Suzanne Haight, Laurie Kay, Tatiana Leaf,
Miulane Luke Bettie Lyon, Henry Lyon, Julie McCue, Kathy Peters, Sarah Stoddard, Marge Wald,
Merna Joan Watta, Jay West, Sandra Woodford.
Henrietta Arias for donating five 8x10 frames to WAC.
Suzanne Haight for getting a new battery for the phone and taking the trash.
Toni Hess for installing a bank of mail slots in the office for all board members and
committee chairmen.
Toni Hess, Alice Thompson, and Merna Watta for taking down the January show and putting up
the February show.
Barbara Schaefer for creating a notebook on the Helen Cassidy show and copying the newsletter.
James Silva for printing labels, hanging labels, and making a price list.
We are very proud and extremely grateful to the following members who volunteered more than 100
recorded hours during the year 2004:
Suzanne Haight: 258.25 hours
And to those of you who volunteer on a regular basis, we appreciate your effort and support.
Without our volunteers, we would not have a Gallery that is open to display all your artwork.
We continuously need docents. If you are interested, please contact Toni Hess (883- 2324) to
schedule a time to be trained.
Previous Month's Membership for 2005: 79
2005
Artist members of the Waimea Arts Council are invited to display two pieces of their
work, any medium, almost any subject (no nudes, according to our lease). Due to the
size of the gallery and the number of members who enter, we limit the size of a piece
to 36" x 36" or the equivalent 1296 square inches. All 2D work must be wired and ready
to hang.
Artwork for this show may be submitted at the gallery during the month of February
until 2:00 pm on Saturday February 26. The show is scheduled to be up March 1 - 31.
But, in order to make this happen we could use some help:
It would also be great if someone could volunteer to be in charge of this show. If you can help with
any or all of this, please call Dolly Loo at 885-7671
