Invitation to Show

 

The Waimea Arts Council cordially invites members to participate in the

26TH ANNUAL HELEN M. CASSIDY MEMORIAL JURIED ART SHOW

at the Firehouse Gallery during the month of October 2010.

 

 

PROSPECTUS

 

WHO:  This event is open to current and new members of the Waimea Arts Council. Membership is open to all adults 18 and older. All media will be accepted: oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, drawing, photography, ceramic, glass, fiber, wood, sculpture, mixed media, etc. 

 

Artists can enter in one of two CATEGORIES:

1) Advanced Amateur/Professional, or               

2) Amateur (that means no previous contest awards).

 

ENTRIES:  Entry fee is $10 per entry. You may enter as many pieces as you want. Entry fees are non-refundable. All entered pieces must be original (no prints or reproductions will be accepted, with the exception of photographs) and have not been exhibited in past Cassidy Shows or have won previous awards in any contest.

 

The maximum size for any entry, including frame is 36” x 36” (or an equivalent of 1296 square inches). Due to gallery policy no nudes will be accepted. Artwork must be ready for installation - including wires (no saw tooth hangers or shrink wrap), bases and/or mounts as required. A 25% donation for the Waimea Arts Council should be factored into your sale price.

 

JUDGING:  Entries will be judged using five criteria: originality, visual balance, visual clarity, personal expression and execution of the medium.  Cash award amounts will depend on the number of entries. Not for sale (NFS) pieces will not be eligible for prizes.

 

The judge this year will be Gordon Motta, a master potter who has been producing unique and distinctive art pottery since 1968.  After earning a degree in Architecture from Cal Poly, He traveled the California art fair circuit for six years before returning to his native Big Island, where he has lived in Ahualoa since 1974.  He is represented in the collection of the State of Hawaii’s Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the Richard Smart collection at Parker Ranch’s Pu’u Opelu Museum, as well as in many private collections.  He has worked on four tile mural projects with the students at Waimea Middle School, and has taught over 500 students his art and technique of forming and decorating objects of clay at HPA since the year 2000.  For more information on Mr. Motta, see www.gordonmotta.com.

 

ENTRY DATE:  Works must be submitted at the Firehouse Gallery from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday or Saturday, October 1-2. Exhibiting artists are asked to volunteer to keep the gallery open for 4 hours during galley hours.  (Gallery hours: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday).

 

RECEPTION:  The reception and awards presentation combined will be held on Saturday, October 9, 3 - 5 p.m.  Exhibiting artists are requested to bring light pupus for the reception.

 

PICK UP DATE:  Those works selected will be hung in the Firehouse Gallery October 6 - 30. The show will close on October 30. Artists are asked to pick up pieces on Saturday, October 30 between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., or call to arrange a later pick-up date. Pieces left after October 31 may be assessed a $5.00 per day storage fee.

 

The Waimea Arts Council will handle all work with the utmost of care; however artists will be responsible for liability of individual art and will hold the Waimea Arts Council and the County of Hawaii harmless.
